Islamabad: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday has rejected contempt of court petitions against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif and son-in-law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar.

The contempt petitions were moved by habitual petitioner Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar conducted hearing.

The petitioner said that after disqualification in Panama case Nawaz Sharif delivered speeches against Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which is unlawful.

The CJP remarked over the petitioner's stance that the former PM used inappropriate words against JIT, not the court. We have record of anti-judiciary speeches of Sharif family which will be raised on a suitable time, he added.

Meanwhile, the court has also disposed of petitions against Federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz, Federal Minister for Railways Saad Rafique, former Interior Minister Rehman Malik, ex-PM Yousaf Raza Gillani and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awam.
