Karachi: The tenth anniversary of the martyrs of the Karsaz bomb blasts of October 18, 2007 is being observed today.

The rally was organized upon the return of former PPP chief Benazir Bhutto after her return to Pakistan after her eight years in exile.

The 2007 Karsaz bombing of 18 October 2007 in Karachi, Pakistan, was an attack on a motorcade carrying former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. The bombing occurred two months before she was assassinated.

The twin bombing targeting the rally of the ex-prime minister near Karsaz had killed at least 200 PPP workers and wounded another 600. Most of the dead were members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

To pay homage, scores of PPP leaders and workers gathered at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada - a memento built to commemorate the martyrs - where they lighted candles.

Anti-democratic forces had attempted on the life of (the then) PPP chairperson Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who had been leading a historic rally of millions of her followers, recalled the chief minister while asserting, The PPP does not forget its martyrs.

Benazir Bhutto’s truck was also damaged in the blasts but she remained unscathed. Undettered, she continued her struggle for democracy and managed to draw huge crowds in political gatherings.

However, she lost her life in another public meeting at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007.
