Published at: 2 year(s) ago
ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Wednesday that former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, has not approached the government for the NOC (no-objection certificate) to head 39-nation Islamic military alliance.

The minister told the Senate today that the retired army general has not so far applied for the NOC as per the law. If Raheel Sharif sent any application to the government, he added, the government would consider it as per the law.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, also spoke on the issue in upper house of the Parliament, saying that neither Raheel Sharif has received any such offer nor is it likely.

“If such thing happens, we will review,” he said.

There are reports in Pakistani media that Raheel Sharif has put forth three conditions to assume the command of a 39-nation Islamic military alliance.

Former Pakistan army officer Lt-Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib told that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given approval after Saudi authorities expressed their desire to appoint General (retd) Raheel as the chief of the military alliance.

The former military officer revealed that General (retd) Raheel set three conditions for taking up the new job that are as followed:

– To include Iran in the military alliance so that the organization doesn’t look sectarian in nature.

– He’ll not work under anyone’s command.

– He’ll have the mandate to act as an arbitrator if there is a need to promote harmony among Muslim countries.
